Andover Business Club

Tomorrow, we will be meeting at   6:30 PM in SamPhil room 102   per usual.   There is some flexibility in our topic this week, as a lot has happened since we last met. We could talk about Amazon’s location for its headquarters. We could also talk about a topic that blends together politics and business, specifically how tariffs influence where businesses and how that’s being negotiated right now. We could also discuss other topics you have in mind. We will decide this at the start of the meeting based on people’s interests.

Topic : In February 2018, there were news articles everywhere raving about the fact that McDonald’s is going healthier.  It’s been over half a year now, so let’s revisit this promise the company has made. Has McDonalds made any changes to their menus? Is this idea even sustainable? Will they lose business/gain business with this shift towards a healthier menu? Do you believe fast food restaurants are sustainable in the US?

Thank you to all the new members who came to ABC’s meeting last week! I hope you were able to share your ideas with the group, learn something from someone else, and get a feel for how ABC meetings are run. For those of you who couldn’t make it, we had a fantastic conversation about Elon Musk and his role as Tesla’s CEO. Tomorrow, we will be hosting a board-only meeting at   6:30 PM in SamPhil room 102 . Last week we gathered the data from the results of the BluBoxes survey and tomorrow, Mr. Alonso (and hopefully Mr. Mundra and Ms. Elliott) will be joining the board to go over them and discuss the next steps we should take as a club. We will keep you updated on BluBoxes, but for now, we will see all non-board members next Tuesday!

For those of you who are new to ABC, we were founded last winter as a 100% discussion based club.  Some of our discussion topics last year included Apple’s marketing, Amazon Echo vs Google Home, the electric car market, and marketing a new product in a grocery store. Check out our blog for more details:   andoverbusinessclub.blogspot.com .  We meet weekly on Tuesdays at 6:30 PM and our meetings typically last 30 minutes.  We will meet tomorrow @6:30 PM in SAMPHIL room 102 in the history department wing.   For those of you who are new to ABC, we have already had a couple of meetings this term and we have moved away from discussion this term to work on a startup called BLUBOXES, which you may have seen in the Weekender.  We envision BLUBOXES as the next on-campus delivery service and tomorrow, we will review the data from the survey sent out through the Weekender this past weekend and prepare an email presenting this data to Mr. Alonso, the CFO of ...

We will kick off the year talking about BluBoxes, our vision of an on-campus delivery service which will ultimately save students both time and money.  Attached in this email is a document which the board has drafted over the summer about BluBoxes.  Please take the time to briefly review them before our meeting.  Bring your ideas for revisions/suggestions to our plan which we will propose to the Deans within the next two weeks.  This is a new year and we would love to see new faces at Andover Business Club.  If you haven’t been to a club meeting yet,   this is the perfect time to join.    We need all the brains and minds we can get as we venture into BlueBoxes and we hope you will consider joining. 

Topic :   Third party vendors   on Amazon.  They make up a pretty big portion of Amazon’s sales each year.  How has this elevated Amazon?  How does this improve the customer experience?  Also, we will reflect on this year for our club/what we can improve on next year.  We can talk about our future projects and how we can get club funds.

Topic:   Online streaming services .   You name it: Netflix, HBO, Amazon Prime.  What makes each of these streaming services unique? How is each of them sustainable/how do their strategies differ? How can there successfully be such a multitude of streaming services in the market? IN ADDITION, we will be talking about a potential business plan for 2018-2019.  I will let you all know if I get information from Mr. Capano about our current club funds.
